One in six people in the UK suffer from hearing loss to some degree, that’s over 10 million people, of which over 50% are over the age of 60. But despite being a significant health issue only two million people have a hearing aid and only 1.4 million actually wear it regularly and enjoy the benefits of better hearing.

Many people just put up with hearing difficulties because they don’t want to be seen wearing a hearing aid or do not realise that things could be better. They miss out on conversations and their family and friends can become frustrated as they have to repeat themselves time and again, or turn up the television volume until it is unbearable for others in the room.

In recognition to this, the Lyric hearing aid was developed by ear nose and throat specialists, engineers and audiologists in the USA. Being invisible the hearing aid tackled the biggest problem for people with hearing loss in the market, but the Lyric also combats some of the main issues found by people that wear traditional hearing aids:

  •  They do not want to have to change batteries
  •  They would like to be able to wear them all the time
  •  They want hearing aids to sound natural and clear

As the Lyric hearing aid is fitted within the ear canal it is 100% invisible and as it sits close to the ear drum and uses the anatomy of your ear – the sound quality is superb. Also it is completely safe to stay in the ear canal for extended periods of time, so you do not have to remove it to shower, exercise or sleep you just go back every few months to get a new one fitted giving you a new devise with a new battery.

When Phonak’s developers set out to create the perfect hearing solution they knew that situating the device as close to the ear drum as possible would help achieve the most natural environment to capture and amplify sound.

Innovating in acoustics, processing and power, Lyric utilises micro-engineering to capture and amplify sound efficiently with minimal processing. The device is designed to be worn 24/7 for months at a time without the need for battery replacements or other types of maintenance, thanks to patented moisture protection systems and breathable materials.
