Free Hearing Aid Assessment in Nursing Homes

Sussex Audiology Centre is proud to offer free hearing aid assessments for residents in nursing and care homes. One of our experienced Audiologists will visit your facility to carry out a thorough assessment, starting with an examination of the ears using an otoscope to check for any wax build-up or other issues that may be affecting hearing. If the ears are clear and healthy, a full hearing test will be conducted using over-ear headphones, resulting in a detailed audiogram.

Using the test results alongside a discussion of the resident’s medical history and daily needs, we’ll make tailored recommendations about whether hearing aids are suitable, and which type might be best. As an independent provider, we are not tied to any manufacturers – our only priority is finding a simple, effective solution that improves quality of life. A family member, carer, or nursing staff member is welcome to be present during the appointment for additional context and support.

If hearing aids are recommended, our specialist will return to deliver and fit the chosen device, make sure the settings are right, and provide a clear demonstration of how to use and maintain the equipment. We also offer ongoing support, including check-ups, maintenance visits, and annual reviews, all arranged at your convenience.

Microsuction Ear Wax Removal in Nursing Homes

We provide professional microsuction ear wax removal services directly to nursing and care home residents, offering a safe, effective, and comfortable solution for managing excess or impacted ear wax. Some individuals naturally produce more ear wax, which can build up over time and lead to discomfort, blocked ears, or hearing loss.

Our fully qualified Audiologists use a gentle, low-pressure suction device to remove wax quickly and safely, often resulting in immediate improvement in hearing. The procedure also includes video otoscopy to capture before and after images of the ear canal and eardrum, giving residents, carers, and families clear visual reassurance.

To prepare for the appointment, residents will need to use olive oil drops (such as Earol) twice daily for up to a week prior to treatment. This softens the wax, ensuring the procedure is smooth, safe, and effective.

“I’d like to start by thanking Rosanne for her expertise and service over the
years – the best hearing aids in the world are nothing without an expert
audiologist on hand to manage them.
December ‘24, I decided to upgrade my aids to Phonak Audéo I90-Sphere,
and the experience has been both amazing and quite emotional.
I am now able hear speech far more clearly, even in very noisy situations, as
never before – the “Spheric” program is unbelievably good. Birdsong is a joy,
and I can enjoy my music again but crucially, I am far more enthusiastic
about attending social occasions, family gatherings, meetings, the cinema
etc.
I’ve had them six months now and I’m still absolutely delighted. Many
thanks to Rosanne and Sussex Audiology Centre.”
