Sussex Audiology uses two forms of wax removal.
We offer both Microsuction and Irrigation (syringing). Microsuction is our preferred option as it is cleaner and more efficient. It is also said to be more comfortable than irrigation.
The main benefits of Microsuction are that it is quick. There is no need to put olive oil or sodium bicarbonate ear drops in your ears for 7-10 days before your appointment (but if you can put olive oil or sodium bicarbonate ear drops in your ears even for a day before it will help) and it is a quick procedure, significantly quicker than irrigation. It is also the only solution for people with known middle ear conditions or known perforations. Cost is £60 for one ear and £90 for two.
Irrigation (syringing) is an option that we still have but is more suited to Domiciliary Visits as the equipment is easily transported. Preparation is key to successful wax removal and olive oil or sodium bicarbonate ear drops must be used for 7-10 days prior to removal. If you are aware of any middle ear conditions or have a known perforation irrigation is not available. A domiciliary visit charge is £100.
