Supporting Families Caring for Seriously Ill Children

Sussex Audiology Centre is proud to support the Children's Respite Trust (CRT) - a charity dedicated to providing essential respite care for families caring for children with complex medical needs.

This year, our support includes a significant personal fundraising challenge undertaken by two members of our team.

About Children's Respite Trust

Children's Respite Trust provides short breaks and respite care for children with life-limiting, life-threatening and complex health conditions.

Caring for a seriously ill child can be physically and emotionally exhausting. CRT offers families the opportunity to rest, recharge and spend quality time together.

Who They Support

  • Children with complex medical needs
  • Families requiring respite from full-time care
  • Parents and siblings affected by long-term illness

Their work helps reduce burnout and supports long-term family wellbeing.

What the Charity Provides

The Trust offers:

  • Respite stays at their specially adapted centre in Uckfield
  • Safe, specialist care delivered by trained staff
  • Family support and wellbeing services
  • Funded short breaks at no cost to families

These breaks provide invaluable relief during incredibly demanding circumstances.

The Picos de Europa Trek – September 2026

In September 2026, two members of the Sussex Audiology Centre team - Bryce Murphy (Operations Director) and Sam Dungate (Audiologist) - will be completing the Picos de Europa Trek in Spain in support of Children's Respite Trust.

The challenge takes place from 11th–16th September 2026 and involves multiple demanding mountain hikes across the dramatic Picos de Europa range, including:

  • Long-distance treks of up to 24km in a single day
  • Significant ascents and descents across rugged terrain
  • Walking through famous routes such as the Cares Gorge, a 1.5km-deep limestone canyon
  • Traversing remote villages including Sotres, Bulnes and Poncebos

The itinerary includes five days of challenging guided mountain walking across the Central and Eastern massifs, with daily ascents reaching up to 1,200 metres.

This demanding trek is designed to push physical and mental limits - all to help raise essential funds for families supported by CRT.

How Sussex Audiology Centre Is Supporting CRT

Our support includes:

  • Sponsoring and promoting the Picos de Europa fundraising challenge
  • Supporting wider CRT fundraising events, including charity golf days
  • Ongoing involvement in fundraising and awareness initiatives

We are incredibly proud of Bryce and Sam for taking on this challenge and representing both Sussex Audiology Centre and the families supported by Children's Respite Trust.
